Thinking outside of our usual box means trying something different, taking on a contrasting mindset or carrying your burdens differently. This weekend, we challenge you to do the following. Even if you just did one new thing, it’s improvement.
- Take the Road Less Traveled. We stay the course from point A to point B, and it’s boring time and again. Go a new direction in driving, hiking, seeking freedom from the usual route to happiness. You will be surprised at what you find - an adventure!
- Say Yes to that Invitation. When someone asks you to do something with them, what do you say? We can get so conditioned to saying No, that we lose out on opportunities, learning and growth. Next thing you know, you are one of those boring people we talk about at cocktail parties. Open yourself to more of what life has to offer.
- Do something that Makes you Uncomfortable. Messing up a few times isn’t that big a deal. But if you get scared and try to avoid all mistakes by sticking with just a few “tried and true” behaviors, you’ll miss out on most opportunities as well. Lots of people who suffer from boredom at work are doing it to themselves. They’re bored and frustrated because that’s what their choices have caused them to be.
- Try Being Vulnerable. This means try being accessible, defenseless, exposed, ready, sensitive, weak and unguarded. Brene Brown, 2010 TEDx Speaker on the Power of Vulnerability says, “Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. Truth and courage aren’t always comfortable, but they’re never weakness. “
