I’ve heard it said that life is a journey. The journey an Olympic athlete takes is one that can inspire us. Most of that journey is quiet early mornings and late nights practicing over and over again. It is committing to working out, falling down, picking yourself back up, working to overcoming your doubts and fears. I’ve had the honor and the privilege of going on a journey like that with my son. The journey of an athlete. I had a front row seat watching his dream unfold. Kyle’s dream was to win a basketball and baseball championship in his senior year of high school. It was so amazing to witness and be there to support his hard work day after day, year after year, and then experience that moment in time when all his work paid off and his dream came true. Moms are there to encourage, support, believe, hope, and dream. They guide, console, cheer, and listen. They are present to teach the value of believing in yourself and never giving up. They are there to catch you when you fall and share the joy with you when you get up. The journey begins with Mom. As the Olympic games unfold, let yourself take in the magical journeys of the Olympic athletes. Think about all the days, weeks, months, and years the athletes have worked, struggled, and tried again. Think about their mothers who have been with them every step of the way. Enjoy the journey with your child wherever their dreams take them. Embrace the privilege you have as a woman and mother to be a part of your child’s life. Being there every step of the way is the best gift you can give them.
