I just got home from a trip to Mexico with my husband and 2 children. Believe it or not, this was the first JUST US vacation outside of visiting family together over the years. We are a fairly active and adventurous family, but had no plan to venture out into the depths of the sea - scuba diving! It was both exciting and nerve racking. Feeling vulnerable, our family’s natural instincts led our every move in and out of the water. I noticed more clearly how my children learn and take on new challenges, the role my husband plays in that and even noticed the moves I made to allow for freedom with the grips of protection at play.
Even though day to day I tend to think that differences are abundant in our lives, I realized that with life, family and friends, God has given us reflections of ourselves to love and nurture. That in our differences, my son attached to the hip of the scuba instructor and my daughter chasing every fish she could see, we are one in the same. That, in our heart of hearts, we are perfect reflections of one another. All afraid, wanting to experience life’s adventure, and most of the time not completely sure of the outcome, but together we have the courage to live out our best lives.
