Our Monday thought this week shares the idea that you are the artist of your life. This is extremely validating to me because I struggled with this concept for a long time and finally after 45 years, know deep within my soul that in every moment I have the opportunity to create the next element of my life. The challenge for me is REMEMBERING that this is possible each and every day.
Our lives are filled with colorful ideas and choices around who we are, who we want to be and how we are spending our precious time. I love the fact that we all have unique ideas about what that life looks like and in those ideas and the relationships we share, inspiration is born.
I have always been a creative thinker and for along time I thought that in order to be “officially creative” I had to be able to draw or paint beautifully. Well because that is not my strong suit, I became discouraged in my creative efforts. Even though I knew I had a powerful creative desire, my “artwork” never looked as beautiful as other artists’ may have. I was comparing myself to the impossible and not looking at the fun creativity I did have. I found that I could be creative in many ways such as encouraging friends, visioning for my clients, parenting, painting paintings ( that don’t leave the house) or planning what my next life adventure may be. I accepted who I was creatively and couldn’t be happier!
Creativity isn’t limited to a paintbrush. We were born to create. Creativity is our birthright and by using this gift we can design the life of our dreams through things like relationships, art, and actions. Brene Brown, Author of The Gifts of Imperfection said it best, “ in 4th grade, purple horses are the most beautiful horses in the whole world…the problem with creative development these days is that in 5th grade and beyond, horses are not purple, they are brown and that is that.”
Embrace your creative spirit today and whatever color your horse is paint it!
