When you start a new fitness routine you can be excited to begin a new journey into feeling good or you can dread the fact that you will “begin a new journey.” Like you I often jump into new sports, activities or routines. It could be my ADD that keeps me on this trek. I want to share with you the tips that keep my head level and feet moving.
Change your attitude. ANY negative thinking about the newness or difficulty WILL hinder you. You only make progress when you think positively.
Vary your routine. We hear a lot about cross-training. It’s necessary to change it up, but don’t stress about it. No one is asking you to take up boxing or cross fit classes if you love biking. Make a list of those things you enjoy doing, like being at the beach, and make an exercise out of it. Wade in the knee deep water at a fast pace. Resistance of any kind is good for you.
Stretch! Stretch your mind and your body. Get into new positions. Listen to your body and figure out where you ache. That is where you should probably stretch or massage.
Social interaction is important. Don’t forget your time is valuable. If you love a sport or activity, invite others. They probably need the accountability group too.
