A common phrase in parenting is, “Catch them doing something right”. In other words, find ways and opportunities to praise a child instead of focusing on their mistakes, pointing out something they didn’t get right, or reminding them about something they forgot or didn’t understand. My son has been home from college for a couple of weeks for his winter break and I found myself thinking about that phrase once again as I looked for ways to encourage him during his visit. My thoughts continued to unfold and I realized how important it is to “catch myself” doing something right. We have our New Year’s resolutions, our “to-do” lists, and our expectations and desires to create a life that presents our truest style, health, and energy but I think sometimes we forget to take a moment to love ourselves, praise ourselves, and to “catch ourselves” doing something right. We do amazing things and we do them everyday. We have incorporated many important changes into our lives that we should be truly proud of. So I encourage you this day, this week, to love yourself and be gentle with yourself. You are enough, you do enough. Remember to “catch yourself” being your greatest self and be proud.
