We all have it. It’s what keeps us alive and we don’t even think about it. There are a million songs and books written about it. Even with all the inspiration and resources, I have to ask…Do you agree that breath is still one of the most misunderstood and mystical aspects of our bodies? Since the new year, I have been paying particular attention to my breath. How I breathe, how it changes in certain circumstances and how I can harness the power of breath and channel it in a certain intentional life direction.
A few years ago, I recall reading or hearing something about breath by Dr. Wayne Dyer. He compared our the breath or the space we allow in our lives to a musical score. He shared his thoughts on the idea that a certain song would not exist without the pauses between the notes. The pauses were the song. HIs words created an image of life for me that I will never forget and I couldn’t help but share. The idea that our days, like music, are one note followed by another. It’s the pause, or the breath that we give to ourselves and our lives that determines its course, sound or song.
At 45 and feel as if I have just begun to become aware of the ebb and flow of my own breath. Since the new year I have begun a journey in yoga that is bringing a new awareness to the power I have in choosing breath over stress or tension.
If you are new to this topic and want to know more I challenge you to look into breath more deeply. If you have some wisdom to share…PLEASE SHARE IT!
