A confident woman is a beautiful thing to behold. Is she confident because she is wearing the latest thing from the chicest boutique? Could she be wearing a baseball cap and exercise clothes and still have that easy going nature that comes from truly liking oneself? I think so. I am in the business of curating closets. Curate means to organize and look after. We can do all of the organizing and looking after we want, but truthfully, we need to curate our souls first. I know what it feels like to put on the perfect outfit and feel cool and confident. I also know what it feels like to arrive at the party and feel less than special because the outfit seems all wrong. I don’t enjoy feeling this way, so I love helping people find a style that suits them, hone it, and make it work for everyday life. In doing this, however, I have learned so much about what it means to be confident. It isn’t just about the clothes that drape our bodies, but rather being comfortable in our own skin. No, the clothes are an expression of the artist that lives within our soul. Sometimes, we just need some help finding that special look that makes us feel like, well, ourselves. Our looks, bodies, hair, and especially fashion, can change on a dime. The point is to dress your soul with self love and acceptance and the outward confidence will follow. Clothes can make you feel with it, hip, and more alive, but self love is the ingredient for that perfect outfit to shine. Helen Keller is a woman that I admire and who inspires me. She had no physical senses and yet was more emotionally awake than I could ever dream of being. One of my favorite Helen Keller quotes is, “What I am looking for is not out there, it is in me.” So when we catch ourselves looking at a confident woman with envy, just look inside yourself. She lives there. She also said, “Never bend your head. Always hold it high. Look the world straight in the eye.” I believe we can all do that.
Whatever you wear, do it with confidence. Stand tall, strut your stuff, and know that your soul is well dressed.
